Federal
Library of the Year
IIa-Managed NASA GSFC Library Honored
In March, The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Library was named The
2002 Federal Library of the Year by the Federal Library and Information
Center Committee (FLICC). The Federal Library of the Year Award is given
each fiscal year for outstanding, innovative, and sustained achievements
by a federal library or information center. With over 1,000 federal libraries,
there is rigorous competition for the award. IIa manages the library as
part of a team with subcontractor ZAI.
Pat Powell, IIa senior vice president, lauded the Goddard staff, "We
are extremely proud of the role our team played in developing innovations
and new processes that helped create the opportunity for achieving this
award. It is indicative of our company to always strive to be the best."
Deborah York, IIa Chief Information Officer and Director of IT Services,
beamed with pride as the former project manager, "I am so proud of
all the great work done at Goddard and the wonderful staff there. They
are a truly remarkable team and evidence that a highly diverse staff from
multiple companies can be a great asset. A well-deserved recognition!
Congratulations."
In an article in the Goddard News, Susan Tarr, FLICC Executive Director
said, "[Goddard] is recognized for its promotion of various innovative
technologies and approaches to knowledge management...In fiscal year 2002
this library succeeded in eliminating the boundaries of traditional library
support by partnering with its agency's scientists and engineers to support
their research initiatives with extensive web-based electronic resources."
The Award's selection criteria are based on the FY02 achievements of
the library. Achievements recognized include mission support, the extent
to which the library assisted in fulfilling its organization's mission;
creativity and innovation in services, including bringing new services
to users and marketing existing services in an exceptional manner, and
customer satisfaction, the extent to which the library met the needs of
its users.
