IIa
has been on a contract-winning streak since July. The following
paragraphs describe the major projects won in the last few months:
October-DoD:
An exciting contract win for IIa in October was the Base Services
contract at Edwards Air Force Base. IIa was selected to manage education
and training and track the development of base military personnel.
This win expands IIa's support role for the military to 10 Air Force
Bases and is the second such contract for the relatively new Education
and Training Support Services division of the company. IIa will
provide human resource development support for more than
6,000 military personnel at Edwards (the Air Force
Flight Test Center) in California beginning in October 2003. IIa
began managing a similar contract for 12,000 military
and civilian personnel at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in
December 2001. The project manager at Eglin is Steve Gardner. Both
contracts are under the Air Force Materiel Command.
September-DoD:
In September, IIa was notified that it will continue
as the contractor for the Cannon Air Force Base Library in Clovis,
New Mexico. Under IIa's management and led by Melissa Haraughty,
in FY01 Cannon ranked as one of the top 20 Air Force libraries
around the nation in customer service. Other members of the Cannon
library team are Amy Burke, Chris Haraughty, and Sean Shepherd.
August-DOE: In August, Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) contracted with IIa for support of business and
program development in the area of advanced terrestrial and space
nuclear power systems. The Department of Energy (DOE) and the National
Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) are restarting a space nuclear
power initiative and ORNL is working to secure a major role in the
new initiative.
Under the contract, IIa staff will recommend business strategies
for new opportunities with DOE and/or NASA; prepare draft proposals
in response to NASA research announcements; produce presentations
and marketing information describing ORNL capabilities and technologies;
and perform technical and programmatic evaluations of space
power reactor concepts and technologies.
July-DoD: In late
July, IIa won a contract to support the Deputy Director U.S. Army
Engineer Research And Development Center (ERDC) in Washington, D.C.
ERDC, a research organization with a staff of more than 2,100 civilians
and military personnel and an annual budget exceeding $550 million,
undertakes R&D in the areas of civil engineering, environment,
water resources engineering, and physical sciences.
Under this contract, Roy Cooper supports the strategic planning
process implementation through a series of training workshops
and lecture sessions for the ERDC Director, Deputy Director, and
Lab Directors; a strategic assessment process; and leadership support
to achieve ERDC's objectives for this task.

IIa Creates Prestigious Web Site for Heinz Center
In September, The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and
the Environment issued a landmark report on the state of the nation's
ecosystems. IIa Internet Services Manager ,Joe Henderson, created the
Web version of the publication, which was also unveiled on September 24th
at a gathering that included EPA Administrator, Christine Todd Whitman.
The report "identifies critical information gaps in what is known
about the nation's natural resources and proposes periodic reports to
the nation to inform and influence policy discussions."
The IIa-created site received rave reviews from
Heinz Center staff, who specifically cited what they deemed
to be an exemplary use of hypertext in a technical document.
