Working in IIa

Strategic Actions Progress

Career Development Ladder/Corporate Excellence Awards

The committee developed initial recommendations, which they have now passed to the human resources department for review and finalization. As a second task, the committee is working to establish a corporate excellence award program to recognize outstanding employee contributions to the company’s success. The awards will be given for efforts that showcase IIa’s core values. The program will be managed by a five member committee, selected annually from a combination of onsite locations and the corporate personnel. Anyone interested in participating on the committee should step forward and offer to serve for a year! Information will be provided in the near future that will describe the award program more clearly.

To show IIa’s dedication to this new effort and to “kick it off”, awards were made in 2004 with corporate management selecting individuals for recognition. In the future, criteria will be disseminated company wide and we will gather input from all personnel. The focus for future awards may differ from that used in 2004.

Three award recipients (Jeff Given, Heather Castleberry, and Mendy Wolfenbarger) were announced in the September 2004 issue of InfoEdge after they were awarded awards of $2,000. IIa is proud to announce the following recipients for this year who have performed activities that have had company wide impact:

  • Uthra Rao and April Tinsley, Nasa Goddard Space Flight Center, for programming and development of a Iliad software to facilitate interlibrary loan connections that allow researchers, scientists, and engineers throughout the complex to order and return materials from their desktops – a development that can be used at our offsite locations across the country. Uthra and April shared the $2,000 award in this category.
  • Melissa Haraughty, Cannon Air Force Base Library, received a $2,000 award for a person or persons in a small project who exhibited excellence and exemplary skills or achievements that led to customer recognition and promoted IIa as a company.
  • Steve Gardner, Eglin Air Force Base, received a $2,000 award for a person or persons in a large project (10 or more people) who exhibited excellence and exemplary skills or achievements that led to customer recognition and promoted IIa as a company.
  • Donna Haynes, Corporate Office, received a $2,000 award for her dedication to excellence in every aspect of her job in supporting staff throughout the company and ensuring that IIa is always presented in the very best manner.

Human Resources Policies

The Human Resources Department has been working on several initiatives to include activities growing out of the strategic action committee. We are excited to report several developments and enhancements within the company. Many of these additions are in response to employee suggestions. Outlined below are some of the developments and enhancements that have been implemented.
• Established a point of contact reference list available on the internal web site
• Regularly post and update job openings online
• Published and implemented an Educational Assistance Policy
• Added Short Term Disability to the benefits package
• Completed mandatory compliance reporting for EEO, Affirmative Action, and Veteran employment

A revision of the Personnel Handbook is in progress with emphasis on policies addressing travel, progressive discipline, purchasing/reimbursement, leave and recruitment.

As a reminder, the IIa internal web site (www2.iiaweb.com) is an excellent resource available to all employees for forms as well as some policies and procedures.

The Human Resources Department continues to be dedicated in the administration of health and welfare benefits, recruiting, hiring, and the well being of all employees.
