Awards and Honors

Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC)

Barbara Casey, Technical Support, received a special award from the Tennessee Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) in August 2004, the first time that AIAA/Tennessee has given any kind of award to a nonmember. Casey received the award for her "...unmatched professionalism, expertise and perfection in overseeing the publication of virtually every AIAA paper and article produced at AEDC."

Eglin AFB Library

The Library was honored at the Air Force Library Workshop in June in Nashville, Tennessee for achieving four stars in the 2003 5-Star Library Program.

Dorothee Bennett, Eglin AFB Library technical assistant, received Eglin Library's first in-house performance award for outstanding efforts in marketing and publicity.

Eglin CCSS

The education center was named best education center in Air Force Materiel Command in 2003, for the second straight year. During an Air Force Audit Agency visit, team members said the Eglin Education Center was the only center to meet 100% customer requirements of the Air Force education centers audited.

During the November 2003 Air Force Materiel Command Unit Compliance Inspection (UCI), IIa employees contributed significantly to the 100% compliance rating. The Mission Support Squadron Commander recognized the IIa team as “UCI Superstars,” designating them as one of the “Outstanding Teams ” during the UCI.

The Eglin Military Personnel Flight (MPF) won the Air Force Gerrit D. Foster Award for 2003. The superior performance and significant contributions provided by IIa staff in Awards and Decorations, Records, Military Formal Training, and Personnel Systems Management were recognized by Mission Support Squadron Commander.

Patrick AFB Library

Patrick Library won the Best Library in the Air Force Space Command for 2003.

New Employees

Corporate

Dr. John Rumble, former Chief of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST’s) Standard Reference Data Program (SRDP), has joined IIa’s executive management team as Technical Director.

Bill Henegar has joined the team as corporate Contracts Manager. He will direct all contract administration activities. In addition, he will support business development activities, including proposal development.

OSTI

Cathy Daniels, Editor, formerly a reporter with the Oak Ridger, works in the Program Integration area of OSTI on promotions and development projects.

Senior Programmer Mark Martin comes to IIa from IdleAir in Knoxville.

Staff Milestones

Corporate

Heather Castleberry, Senior Accountant, has earned her Master of Business Administration from Lakeland College, Kellett Graduate School in August.

June Crowe, Senior Researcher, has been selected as an exhibitor in the 2004 Oak Ridge Open Show at the Oak Ridge Art Museum during the months of September and October. She was one of 99 artists selected from a field of 164 applying.

Susanne Dupes, Corporate Communications, earned her Master of Science in Information Science from the University of Tennessee in August.

Todd Peck, Computer Systems Specialist, has earned his Associate of Applied Science in Business Management Technology from Roane State Community College.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Library

In May, Nikkia Anderson completed her B.S. in Computer Science from Bowie State University in Maryland.

Charles Early and Andrea Japzon will be presenting their paper, “The Knowledge Base of a Reference Librarian’s Brain,” at the Virtual Reference Desk 6th Annual Reference Conference in November. Using email reference transaction transcripts, the process of answering reference questions in NASA’s dynamic information environment is studied and codified for the purpose of training and for creating a reference tool.

OSTI

Gay Carroll was promoted to Production Control Clerk and continues to provide cost, operations, personnel, and administration support to the OSTI contract.

Neal Ensor was promoted to Oracle Software Developer, assuming additional responsibilities providing software development and maintenance support to OSTI.

Don Williamson was promoted to Project Control Specialist, assuming additional responsibilities supporting OSTI classified programs.

In August, Fred Rascoe and wife Zoe, welcomed son Cyrus Mason Rascoe into the world.

Eglin AFB Library

Claudene Schaetzle, User Services Librarian, and her husband, Bill, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary August 31.

Vicki Ortiz, library technical assistant, is a straight "A" student at University of West Florida.

OSTI

In May, Jeff Given and wife Stacy welcomed a new son into their family, Cole Thomas.

In July, Mark Martin and wife Amy welcomed a new son into their family, Isaac Charles.

Also in July, Neal Ensor and wife Sherry welcomed a new son into their family, Shawn Patrick.

Gay Carroll’s son, Colton, received his Boy Scout Eagle Award in July.

Vandenberg

In May, Stephanie Edwards and husband Floyd welcomed daughter Sabrina Heather Sage Edwards.
